Our school formerly known as Estrella Mountain Accommodation School was assumed by Gila Crossing Community School in January of 2002. The Tribal and School administration worked very diligently to ensure the smooth transition of this school from Maricopa County to being locally controlled by the Gila River Indian Community and the Board of Trustees.
Gila Crossing Community School has been providing excellent educational opportunities for the last 100 years to the students from District Six and Seven of the Gila River Indian Community. The School's Board of Trustees and the Administration made a commitment to the tribe to provide a quality, research based education to the students enrolled in the new North Campus.
The community and students have given a very positive feedback for Gila Crossing Community School assuming this responsibility and challenge.
We have a very dedicated and committed staff at this campus. During the 2006-07 school year, the school administration decided to go fully departmentalization in the seventh & eigth grade sections. This was primarily done to ensure the smooth and fearless transition of our graduated students into the off-reservation high schools. Last year a partial departmentalization was introduced in the sixth grade classrooms as well. The average class size among the upper grades is approximately 13 students, an ideal setting and a teacher's dream. However, the current situation may change depending upon the grade level and class distribution in the following years. Additional factors are local demographics and bordering school district's admission criteria as well as local Gila River Indian Community growth and needs.
